Chasing the light

Timing is crucial in photography. We are there when lighting conditions are optimal, such as during the golden hour at sunrise or sunset. Stormy weather can also provide ideal lighting conditions, with dramatic clouds and shifting light creating opportunities for captivating shots.

Photography Guide – Thomas van Hemert

Thomas van Hemert (1982) is a photographer from the Netherlands with over 20 year of professional photography experience. A passion that started when he was only 12 years old. Previously Thomas has worked for the Dutch media; covering news events and human interest stories. He also has a background in wedding photography.

His first experience with Georgia was back in 2010 when he visited the wine region of Kakheti to make a photo documentary of their 8000 year old wine culture in Georgia. He immediately fell in love with the sheer grandness of the mountains of the Caucasus. In that time he had little experience moving around in this type of terrain and photographing the sceneries at the same time. A decade of constantly exploring Georgia’s backcountry has made Thomas a true specialist about Georgia’s nature.

Sinds 2018 Thomas has been organizing photography tours in the backcountry of Georgia. Guiding fellow photographers to the most breathtaking places, far off the beaten track and helping them to advance in their photography skills.
