Vashlovani

Spring & Autumn

3 days

max. 8 people

Vashlovani is a protected nature area with a distinct desert-like character unique in the Caucasus, earning them the nickname “the Africa of Georgia.” While high mountains aren’t present, they’re visible and impressive on clear days.
The park is home to shepherds who migrate with their herds into the High Caucasus during summer.
Vashlovani’s ecosystem hosts diverse fauna and flora, including antelopes, jackals, bears, wolves, martens, and previously, the Caucasian leopard. Birds are abundant, alongside turtles, snakes, and other reptiles.
Within the park, you’ll also discover the extraordinary mud volcanoes, a rare geological wonder perfect for photography.

For four days, we’ll traverse the terrain in 4×4 off-road vehicles, capturing the unique landscapes from dawn till dusk. Our accommodation for three nights will be in rustic bungalows nestled in nature. Though we’ll be somewhat self-sufficient, rest assured, we’ll have all the essential amenities for a cozy and secure night. Positioned amidst nature, these bungalows are conveniently situated near picturesque photo spots.

Itinerary

Mijnskure

We’ll kick off early from Tbilisi and head to Dedoplistskharo to get registered at the park office. Along the way, we’ll make a stop to check out an old deserted airfield called Great Shiraki from the Soviet era. Then, we’ll continue our journey through the beautiful Vashlovani National Park, making several photo stops before finally reaching Mijnskure on the border of Azerbaijan, where convenient bungalows await. After settling in, we’ll hop back into our car to explore the nearby area and find the perfect spot to catch the sunset. Since there are no restaurants at the bungalows, we’ll need to cook our own meals.

Chachuna

We begin the day by capturing the sunrise in the areas near our bungalow. After making our own breakfast, we’ll embark on a scenic drive along the Azerbaijan border, traversing through breathtaking terrain to reach Chachuna. Along the way, we’ll encounter numerous valleys and viewpoints where we’ll stop for photo sessions. As evening approaches, we’ll head to a high viewpoint that offers sweeping vistas of Vashlovani and Chachuna. Our accommodation for the night is a cozy bungalow situated near the Dali Reservoir.

Mud Volcanoes

We kickstart the day bright and early with a sunrise visit to the mud volcanoes. These fascinating natural formations are perfect for capturing stunning photographs in the morning light. While we’re there, we’ll also enjoy beautiful views of the Dali reservoir. Continuing our journey, we’ll take in more sights around the Iori reservoir and make a stop at the Sabereebi Monastery. As the day winds down, we’ll head back to Tbilisi, concluding our adventure in the evening.
